Jerry Vincent ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ): Haiti Response

I would urge great caution and sensitivity in planning anything for Haiti at this time. There will be plenty of time for routine eye care later. Between the current urgent needs, broken infrastructure, weak logistics and huge number of agencies on the ground now, there is still a great deal of chaos. Non-urgent activities, however well intended, can get in the way and it is possible you end up doing more harm than good. Please note that Haiti does have a national plan for blindness prevention and the Haitians are currently assessing what they have lost in terms of facilities and manpower. IAPB and Vision 2020 member agencies will coordinate and support the Haitians as they resume work.
