Chapters: Annual Meeting Posters

Create a poster to share with others what your chapter is doing! The Poster Session at the Annual Meeting will allow for interact between chapters, sharing of stories, ideas and resources. In addition, the poster that your chapter will be creating can be used as a promotional and recruitment tool for your Chapter in the future.   We are requesting one poster per Chapter. To be uniform, we are requesting everyone use the 24″x36″ size on glossy paper.  Several companies were evaluated for cost, ease of use and quick printing time. The company we are using is: Makesigns.com. The cost to your chapter for the 24″ by 36″ posters is about $22.00 plus shipping. To give you an idea about timeline to have these made, the posters are printed and shipped within one business day of receiving them (posters received before noon central time on any given business day are actually printed and shipped out on the same day). Then the delivery time simply depends on what shipping method you choose. The company offers everything from FedEx Ground, which can take up to 5 business days, to FedEx Next Business Day which would arrive the next business day after it is shipped. Our VOSH template is flexible. You can add text, images, tables or charts as you wish. It would be great to attach your new VOSH Chapter logo! Attached is the template you can use to create your poster and upload the results. Also, you can go to the company website, makesigns.com, and on the home page along the top there is a template tab, under this is a ‘Custom School Template’. Our...

November 2015 Insight: A Recap of the New Orleans Annual Meeting

The VOSH 2015 annual meeting, held October 9-10, 2015 in New Orleans, was packed full of information for our chapters to take back for implementation in their clinics, both locally and internationally. Much thanks to National Vision for their sponsorship, as their support made our meeting possible. World Sight Day was Thursday, October 8 and 2015 is the ten year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. To commemorate, VOSH, with support from VSP and Optometry Giving Sight, conducted a free clinic outreach at the Sanchez Recreation Center. Located in the Lower Ninth Ward, this free clinic to perform free eye exams and provide free glasses directly benefited the survivors of Hurricane Katrina.  Friday a past president’s luncheon was followed by the VOSH board meeting. That evening all attendees met for a cocktail reception honoring the Fellows of VOSH International. The Saturday morning session highlights included presentations from the World Council of Optometry, American Optometric Society, Remote Medical Access, Optometry Giving Sight, Brien Holden Vision Institute, Vision Impact Institute, Restoring Vision, Mexican Optometric Association and Surgical Eye Expeditions. Much information was gained by the individual chapters to benefit planning future clinics. The afternoon had informative breakout sessions with SEE (Surgical Eye Expeditions), working with North American and International student-VOSH chapters, sustainable Clinic Development, and hands-on technology. A highlight of the meeting was a Skype dialogue from Nicaragua with our VOSH Corp placement, Dr. Justin Manning. Dr. Manning summarized his weekly schedule as he embarks on his teaching career, and was surprised with a President’s Circle Award. Other award winners were Max Bruss (President’s Circle Award), Dr. Victoria Weiss (Humanitarian of the Year),...
