Uduak Udom, OD, FNCO, FAAO, Liaison, African Affairs
Dr. Udom, President of The World Council of Optometry, has been active in International Optometry since her graduation from the University of Benin School of Optometry, Nigeria in 1999. Her leadership, publications, lectures and workshops have been widely recognized. Dr. Udom is the first optometrist to be awarded the UK Commonwealth Professional Fellowship (2010). She was the first president of Women Optometrists in Nigeria (2000-2004), the first female president of the Nigerian Optometric Association (2006-2008) and the president of The African Council of Optometry 2008-2012. Dr. Udom was Woman of the Year, American Biography Society 2005, Eye care Supporter of the Year, Nigeria Vision Expo 2008, Distinguished Leadership in National Development Gold Award (D’Linga, Nigeria) 2008, Lion’s Club Special Olympics, Opening Eyes Award for Service 2010, and Meritorious Service Award 2011, Nigerian Optometric Association. Dr. Udom is a Primary Care Consultant at Ceejay Vision Centre, Uyo, Nigeria. Her primary care Fellowship (FNCO) of the Nigerian College of Optometrists was awarded following a four year residency program. DR. Udom was recently recognized as the ‘Nigerian Optometrist of the Year 2013’ in July 2013 and awarded the IAPB ‘Eye Care Leaders Award 2013’ during the IAPB Council of Members meeting in Brighton, September 2013.
