Meet This Year's VOSH/International Award Recipients

The DR. HARRY I. ZELTZER LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD is presented at the V/I Annual Meeting to a person recognized as an exemplary humanitarian by providing a lifetime of service to humanity through improving visual welfare through leadership, dedication, invention, public health, developing sustainable eye care and furthering the understanding and correction of refractive error. The HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD is presented at the V/I Annual Meeting to honor an individual who has distinguished him or herself during the year by bringing eye care to underserved populations. We’re thrilled to announce that Dr. Marcela Frazier, OD, MPH, FAAO is the recipient of the Harry I. Zeltzer Lifetime Achievement Award!

Originally from Colombia, Dr. Frazier has spent over 20 years inspiring eye care professionals to deliver quality pediatric care across the US and globally. As faculty adviser to SVOSH-UAB, she’s empowered generations of young optometrists to engage in humanitarian work. A dedicated researcher and advocate for representation in optometry, Dr. Frazier truly embodies the spirit of this prestigious award.

Levi Uchechukwu Osuagwu, OD, MSc, PhD, FAAO

Dr Levi Uchechukwu Osuagwu is a brilliant mentor, advocate, educator, and researcher.  He has shown exemplary leadership in optometry and public health across Africa and other countries. His continuous drive to support the next generation of optometrists in improving clinical skills and the lives of others is an example to all.   His leadership fostering sustainability, cross-border collaboration, and a culture of service that continues to shape optometry in Africa today.
